Under some re-construction as of 10/10/11. New look and layout, couple things I need to fix. :)

Cannot Update Canon Firmware DSLR 60D

Update File Cannot be Found. Please Check the Memory Card and Reload the Battery

TIP: Use FAT32. If you get a failure message when you try to update your Canon DSLR firmware about removing the battery and inserting a card with firmware and you followed the instructions, I bet you formated your card as ExFAT. In order to record video over 4GB segments you need to use ExFAT and not FAT32, however the firmware upgrade process will not read ExFAT partitions. Easy fix, just reformat the card or grab one of your old 2GB cards laying around and put the firmware file on the card. I puzzled after following the instructions and it was still failing. Also, make sure the file is on the root ( top directory ) of the SD card. If you ran the utility to extract it, the extract utility put it in a subdirectory with the instructions so you have to copy or move the file.

DSLR Video 4GB Max

DSLR Recording Time Limited to 4GB Fix

UPDATE: This still won't fix it on most. Apparently it's due to an import tariff issue that taxes video cameras differently in some places. You may be able to load custom firmware for your Canon DSLR with Magic Lantern.

Are you having a problem shooting 1080p and limited to 13-15 minutes because the file hits 4gb?  It is a FAT32 limitation.  Some cameras, in my case Canon EOS 60D, support the Microsoft ExFAT partition type.  For the practical future this should let you store movies up to the limit of your SD or CF card.  16gb should then give you about an hour with 1080p and 24fps or about 50 minutes with 30fps.  As of this date, there are some SDXC cards that are 128gb becoming available. There may be other limitations in your camera's software that restrict how long you can record or how large files can be.

Note: on my Canon, it does not format the card this way by default if the card was FAT32 before so I had to format it from my Windows machine in ExFAT.
